We are thrilled to announce that The World Reimagined, in partnership with the Bristol Legacy Foundation, is bringing Community: Becoming Black & British to Bristol—an inspiring documentary and heritage project that explores the impact of Black British community organisations from the 1970s to 2000. This initiative is funded by the National Heritage Lottery Fund.
This documentary and community engagement project is more than just a film - it is a platform for education, empowerment, and intergenerational dialogue. We will bring teams of young people together with industry experts to capture the lived experiences of Black Britons from the 1970s to 2000. The project brings to light the resilience, activism, and cultural contributions that have often been overlooked in mainstream narratives.
As The World Reimagined expands this initiative across the UK, our goal is to ensure that Black British history is recognised, remembered, and reimagined for future generations. In Bristol, a city with a complex history of both oppression and resistance, this project takes on even greater significance.
Through this collaboration, young filmmakers will work alongside industry professionals to document and explore the hidden heritage of their communities. By combining historical insight with digital content creation, we are not only preserving history but also equipping the next generation with the skills to tell their own stories and advocate for change.
We need you to be a part of this mission! We’re currently recruiting a Heritage Lead to help drive this important work forward. If you are passionate about history, community engagement, and ensuring that Black British heritage is recognised and celebrated, view the job description below.
