Bristol Legacy Foundation Presents at the City Gathering
On the 8th of March, 2024, Bristol Legacy Foundation Chair Deputy Mayor Councillor Asher Craig presented the Bristol Legacy Foundation to a wide range of stakeholders at the final City Gathering. Held twice a year, the City Gathering brings together key stakeholders in the public, private and voluntary sector to deliver the One City Plan.
During each City Gathering, organisations within the city are invited to present their ‘Offer’ to the city in return for an ‘Ask’ from city partners. Councillor Craig presented the BLF’s ‘Offer’: A 10 year programme to transform Bristol’s understanding of its role in the Transatlantic Trafficking of Enslaved Africans. In return, the BLF made an Ask of the city to support and provide resource to deliver the BLF’s mission, including advocacy and promotion, access to networks, collaboration, partnerships, sponsorships and in-kind support. As the Transatlantic Trafficking of Enslaved Africans is so closely woven into the social history of Bristol, the BLF’s goal of reparatory justice is to the benefit of the whole city as it comes to terms with its past, and how this has affected the lives of African heritage communities within the city today.
As Bristol moves away from the mayoral system to the committee system, ensuring the support of the whole city is imperative in aiding the future direction of the BLF.
